Le premier portrait que j'ai réalisé fut celui de mon grand père. Ce visage, déjà cadré très serré et dénué de tout artifice, incarnait la seule figure d'autorité paternelle que je connaissais alors. J'ai pour la première fois dépasser les clichés du portrait : sourire, se tenir droit, être beau !

Alors étudiant en Sciences-Politiques et en Droit, j'ai choisi d'abandonner mes projets pour me tourner vers le portrait photographique. J'avais désormais trouvé mon langage.

Depuis maintenant trois ans, je réalise une fresque photographique, cherchant à décrire le pouvoir et l'influence en ce début de XXIème siècle, par les individus qui le composent.

Des portraits où se mêlent financiers, publicitaires, intellectuels, diplomates, ou encore Empereurs romains.

Dans mes expositions, le mur entier est composé d'images, du sol au plafond où les hommes de pouvoir du XXIème siècle viennent se confronter aux bustes en marbre des Empereurs Romains. Je rends contemporain et quelquefois vivant ces bouts de pierre sculptés où chaque brisure, éraflure est le miroir de nos rides.

Le mur est alors envahi par une multitude de portraits où les regards s'interrogent, se confrontent.

Aujourd'hui, j'approfondis la notion de pouvoir à travers des métiers qui élargissent le projet : Il y a notamment les chirurgiens, et les avocats, qui nous parlent du pourvoir d'entrer dans les corps, de « sauver », ou celui de rester libre.

My first portrait was of my grandfather. Already very tightly framed, spare, and with no artifice, this face incarnated the only figure of fatherly authority I had ever known. For the first time, I had gone beyond the clichés of portraiture : stand up straight, smile, be beautiful !

I dropped out of university, where I was studying political science and law, and dedicated myself to portrait photography. I had found my language.

For three years now, I have been working on a photographic fresco describing power and influence at the turn of our century through the personalities that dominate the establishment.

These portraits bring together financiers, advertising moguls, intellectuals, diplomats, and even Roman emperors.

In my exhibitions, the walls are covered with images from floor to ceiling on which power figures from the 21st Century confront marble busts of Roman emperors. These pieces of sclupted stone, where each crack and erosion mirrors our own wrinkles, become contemporary, sometimes alive.

The wall becomes invaded by a multitude of gazes that question and confront each other.

Today, I am broadening my project by looking at power through other professions, like surgeons and lawyers, who have the power of penetrating bodies, of « saving », of granting freedom.
